Treat & Prevent Diaper Rash In 5 Steps

We really care about preventing and treating diaper rashes on your little one, so here are some great tips from trusted Pediatricians to prevent and treat diaper rash.

1. Gently clean the diaper rash area pediatricians recommend using unscented baby wipes. You can also use a spray bottle with water after using a baby wipe, simply spray the diaper rash area and very gentle pad dry with a tissue.

2. Dry the area before applying the diaper cream - you can use the diaper to fan the area for at least 30 seconds. If you rush to apply the diaper rash cream before letting the skin dry you will trap the moisture between the rash and the cream, preventing the diaper rash from healing.

3. Wash your hands RIGHT before applying diaper rash ointment. Yes this means right after wiping the area. This is extremely important because if your fingers get contaminated with any bacteria it can get trapped between your babies skin and the diaper cream, creating an even worse rash. Yes we know, this is super inconvenient - but you are in luck because you can use SwipenSnap™ diaper cream applicator to hygienically apply the diaper rash ointment.

4. Apply an extra thick layer of diaper ointment right before bed. This is mainly because this will be the time they will be in a wet diaper the longest. "Diaper creams are meant to go on thick — however, you can get away with using less on a day-to-day basis and increasing the thickness when your child’s bum needs extra care" (source Mom Loves Best).

5. Diaper free time - let you baby go completely commando for an hour a day without any diaper cream. This will allow the air to dry and heal the area. It makes for a super cute photo op too. You can use a towel or a disposable pee pad to catch the mess.

If the above does not work after a few days, speak to your pediatricians about your specific case. There are many thing that cause diaper rash, such as yeast infections and diet changes.
